One of the main IWS goals is to support and encourage Wootz research and community no matter who does it. Wootz is a wonderful, mysterious and richly historical material anchored in cultures the spanning the vast majority of the Asian Continent.
Documenting that history, that culture, promoting wootz as a material and researching what makes this metal tick are of the utmost importance to the community and future generations.
Supporting these endeavors the society has established The Wootz Community Awards, desiring to recognize and encourage these people who are working and contributing to the field of Wootz and crucible steel.
Nominations are gathered over several months through a comprehensive process that includes recommendations, community feedback, the review of academic papers and research and overall recognition within the field.
